Mydnight's Hero Published

The King of Siyen has been assassinated. Prince Karvas is the sole heir of this rich and powerful realm but he lives in exile in distant Sheasu—the Isle of Lost Heroes. In his absence, evil Baron Sadanzo and his army of robber-knights have staked their claim to the vacant throne.

In Mydnight's Hero, your quest is to voyage to Sheasu and track down Prince Karvas in the fabled city of Mydnight. Once found you must persuade him to return with you to Siyen without delay. You have only 50 days in which to complete this challenging quest or Siyen will be enslaved by the tyrannical Sadanzo and his brutal followers.

We hope you enjoy our latest completed book. Only five more Lone Wolf books left!

The Buccaneers of Shadaki!

The legendary Moonstone was created by the god-like Shianti, whose presence upon Magnamund heralded the dawn of Humanity. It contains the might of all the Shianti's magic and wisdom - the sum of their divine knowledge. Lone Wolf, Supreme Master of the Kai, has successfully retrieved the Moonstone following its theft by the forces of darkness, and now this magical artefact must be returned quickly to its creators before its immense powers disrupt the delicate balance of nature. He has entrusted the precious Moonstone to you - the most promising warrior in the ranks of the New Order Kai.

In The Buccaneers of Shadaki, your quest is to deliver this stone of power to the Shianti who are exiled upon the mystical Isle of Lorn. Will your vital quest succeed, or will you fall foul of the pirates and perils that infest the southern seas of Magnamund?

When I acquired my copy of this rare tome, it was fetching insane sums on auction sites. (Actually, I bought someone's entire Lone Wolf collection to get my hands on this one book!) Checking again just now confirmed that nothing much has changed.

We at Project Aon are doing our best to bail out our fellow fans in these trying times. Now, if you can do without the aroma of paper and ink (or just can't wait for Mongoose to republish it), you don't need to break your budget in order to read the 22nd installment in the series.

Voyage of the Moonstone - Illustrated

You remember how we published Voyage of the Moonstone last month? You
may have noticed that it didn't have all of the typical illustrations.
Long story short, now it does:

The long story is that Trevor Newton illustrated Voyage of the
Moonstone
. He proved devilishly difficult to track down for our dogged
volunteers who had been able to find virtually all of the authors and
illustrators involved with the publication of Lone Wolf, except for
Mr. Newton. We searched in vain for years.

Ironically enough, we located Mr. Newton shortly after we gave up and
published Voyage of the Moonstone without his illustrations. Sadly, it
wasn't all good news.

Trevor Newton passed away in 2002, as his widow informed us. We
offered our condolences, and she graciously gave her consent that his
illustrations should be part of Project Aon.

For that generosity, Mrs. Newton, you have our heartfelt gratitude.

Voyage of the Moonstone Published!

The Moonstone is a legendary artefact that was created by the god-like Shianti. It contains the might of all their magic and wisdom, the sum of their divine knowledge. Lone Wolf—Supreme Master of the Kai—has succeeded in retrieving it from the clutches of Naar, the King of the Darkness.

Now the Moonstone must be returned to its creators who are exiled upon the remote Isle of Lorn in Southern Magnamund. Someone must take the fabled artefact to the Shianti and Lone Wolf has chosen you, the most promising warrior among the ranks of the New Order Kai, to carry out this vital mission. Armed with the special weapons and skills of a New Order Grand Master, you embark upon a secret voyage to the distant Isle of Lorn. However, your mission quickly becomes a life-and-death struggle when you encounter intrigue and deadly danger en route.

It gives me pleasure to announce the publication of Voyage of the Moonstone, the first of the New Order series which puts you in control of the destiny of the most talented new Grand Master in the New Order of the Kai.

On a personal note, as an American fan, I waited for years for gamebooks beyond The Curse of Naar to be published. I would stop in a bookstore once in a while to see if they had arrived yet. The New Order series has never arrived on American bookshelves. So I am happy to play a part in officially bringing this series to new lands after such a long wait.

For all of the volunteers in Project Aon, may Ishir and Kai guide you on your journey.

The Curse of Naar Published!

You are the warrior Lone Wolf—Kai Grand Master of Sommerlund. Fresh from your victory over your evil alter-ego, Wolf's Bane, reluctantly you are forced to return to the Plane of Darkness. For there you glimpsed the fabled Moonstone and you have sworn to save this gem of mystical power from the clutches of Naar—the King of Ultimate Darkness.

In The Curse of Naar, you must venture once more through the Shadow Gate and confront the Dark God. Only by finding and retrieving the Moonstone can you hope to save your world from invasion by Naar's armies of night. In this ultimate Grand Master challenge, your life and the future of your entire world is at stake!"

It is with great pleasure that I announce our publication of the last gamebook where you take the role of Lone Wolf, last of the First Order Kai. It has been a long journey to get to this point, and I am gratified to recall the dedication and skill of my fellow volunteers as we have worked on Project Aon these past nine years. I am also pleased by all of the interest you have shown and support you have given. Thank you.

Never fear, we have more adventures yet to come. Our next publication will be Voyage of the Moonstone wherein one of Lone Wolf's star pupils is given the critical task of returning the Moonstone to the Isle of Lorn—assuming that you ensure Lone Wolf's success in wresting it from Naar's grasp in our current release: The Curse of Naar. The fate of Magnamund—and all of Aon—hangs in the balance.

Lone Wolf Spectrum Games

Way back in 1984, the first two Lone Wolf gamebooks—Flight from the Dark and Fire on the Water—were adapted for computer play. The games are a combination of text adventure and 'combat simulator'.

Project Aon has decided to make these games available, since they are part of the history of Lone Wolf. Each of the two games is available in a perfect TZX file, which can be loaded into a Spectrum 48k emulator. Also included are text files of the instructions for each game. They are available here. Here's a lovely SCREEN$ of the title pic:

We have already done a great deal of work in collecting together previews, reviews, solutions, adverts, and competitions relating to these games in the Lone Wolf Software Articles PDF file, which was recently updated with some new materials. If you happen to know of anything we've missed, please let us know!

(Currently, we are not making the game Lone Wolf—The Mirror of Death available for download. We are in contact with the rights holder for that game, and we are still in discussion. More news as we receive it.)

We are indebted to Martijn van der Heide and all who have contributed to the wonderful World of Spectrum website for these games and the relevant magazine articles. For information on emulating the Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K, this is probably the best resource on the Internet.

We hope these games are more than mere curiosities, but will appeal to any fans with nostalgia for computer emulation, and perhaps even a new generation of fans of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K. So grab your sword and prepare for combat--just be careful not to damage your rubber keyboard!

Highway Holocaust Published

You are Cal Phoenix, the Freeway Warrior, champion and protector of Dallas Colony One. A murderous gang of HAVOC clansmen, led by the psychotic Mad Dog Michigan, are bent on destroying your fragile colony as it crosses the wastelands of Texas on the first stage of a life-or-death exodus to the California coast. These bike-riding clansmen are a formidable enemy: armed, cunning, and extremely dangerous, capable of launching a lightning raid at any time, day or night. You will need all your wits about you if you are to defend your people and reach your destination intact!

Keeping the momentum going, we've published the first of the Freeway Warrior series, Highway Holocaust. I understand that this series holds a special place in Joe Dever's heart, and if you haven't experienced it before, I think you'll like it. The storytelling and gameplay are very similar to Lone Wolf, but the story is set in a post-apocalyptic America.

This is the first book with full Unicode and PNG support which will make things look more polished, but if you experience any problems, let us know.

Once you've completed the adventure, also make sure to check out our latest creation (that's actually been lurking in the background for years), the Flowchart, a diagram of all the paths through the book.

As always, enjoy!

Greetings,

We've just release our new version of Statskeeper into the wild. This is a completely rewritten version which we hope will be easier to use and more stable (stabler?). Lone Wolf 1-4 Updated and Single Page Versions Available

Greetings,

We have just published revisions of Lone Wolf books 1-4 (i.e. Flight
from the Dark, Fire on the Water, The Caverns of Kalte, and The Chasm
of Doom). This publication includes:

* Updated higher-quality illustrations
* Single-page, simplified alternate versions: one single file, no
images, no scripting, no styling
* Lots of little corrections to the books that have been building up
on our To Do list ever since we last published them

We hope you enjoy the newly polished books and the highly requested
single page version.

I bet I know what you're thinking: "What about Dawn of the Dragons?!"
Grand Master Dever has asked for Project Aon to help in some of his
future plans that you've probably heard about recently (you'll hear
more from us later). So for now, revising the already published Lone
Wolf books has our priority. We apologize for the delay, and hope you
understand why we feel this is important.

The Readers' Handbook unveiled!

Attention all Lone Wolf fans: The Readers' Handbook is finally here!

After much work, editing, and behind-the -scenes deliberation, Project Aon is proud to announce the official release of the Readers' Handbook. This area of the site is devoted to the many and varied rules for Lone Wolf, Grey Star, and Freeway Warrior.

Designed to replace the now-defunct Rules Handbook, the Readers' Handbook is divided up into sections, each of which explains the rules for one particular series: Kai, Magnakai, Grand Master, New Order, Grey Star, Freeway Warrior. These annotated rules sections are designed to help newer fans, as well as old hands, understand the rules more clearly.

Also of interest is the extensive Topical Guide, an interlinked A-Z listing that helps explain special rules for each particular item or skill, how they apply to the game, and how they affect other rules. This Topical Guide should make the rules clearer to all Lone Wolf fans new and old alike. Be aware that the Topical Guide may contain mild spoilers for the later books, so be sure to read only those headings
that you intend to.

Enter the Readers' Handbook through the following portal, which is also linked from the Books page of our site:

http://www.projectaon.org/en/ReadersHandbook/Home

We have a little more work planned for the Readers' Handbook, such as adding the complete New Order rules set, and expanding the Freeway Warrior sections. However, these are quite a low priority right now, so release of the Readers' Handbook has been brought forward to free up resources for other projects.

We hope the Readers' Handbook will help to answer the many questions about the Lone Wolf game that are regularly posed without fans having to wait for us to reply.
